Emergency Medicine Specialist
A humanist as much as a doctor, Dr. Sergio is the son of a pediatric nurse whose early exposure to the closeness of family medicine set him on a path to honor the traditional care of a doctor for his patients while pursuing excellence in the medical field. As a young doctor, he worked alongside his father and his mentor—a family friend, and also a doctor—in Pamplona, Spain, before moving to the UK and specializing in Emergency Medicine.
Spending several years in orthopedic surgical training in Oxford, Dr. Sergio then moved toward emergency medicine as a definitive career choice. He completed his specialty in Emergency Medicine at St. Mary's Hospital and the Imperial College in London. Prior to becoming a consultant he moved to Darwin, Australia as part of his training program. He also spent several months in Honduras, where he volunteered to treat victims of violence and trauma in one of the most challenging areas of the capital.
Dr Sergio arrived in Vietnam in 2013, where he collaborated in the development of emergency medical planning—firstly in Hanoi at the National Hospital for Pediatrics alongside Professor Ha, and then in our own medical center here in Saigon. He was instrumental in the development of an acute emergency medical unit and in the launch of our ∗9999 emergency ambulance services. He then moved to the largest hospital in Singapore (SKH) for two years before ultimately returning to FMP in 2019.
Dr. Sergio is the father of two daughters who are just as delighted as he is to be back in Saigon. In his spare time, he has written stories for children that he hopes to see published in the near future. He is an avid traveler and loves the company of friends and family.
