BEWARE OF SUNBURN DURING THE HOT WEATHER RIGHT NOW!
June 19, 2024 - It seems like the blistering heat has already arrived before summer. April 2024 was the hottest April on record, according to the EU's Climate Change Service. And sunburn is one of the most common yet overlooked issues during the blistering heat.
What is sunburn?
Sunburn is an acute inflammatory skin reaction after extended exposure to UV rays from the sun (or artificial sources). Sunburn is painful and might even require treatment in most cases.
How to protect yourself?
- Avoid sun exposure during when the sun’s rays are at the strongest (around 10 am-4 pm)
- Apply sunscreen before going out (with an SPF of at least 30)
- Cover-up (with mask, hat, umbrella, sunglasses, long sleeves, etc.)
- Avoid suntanning and tanning beds
- See a dermatologist for annual skin (cancer) checks
Go see a dermatologist now!
You should seek medical help if the pain prolongs over a period of time or if there is severe blistering over a large portion of the body. The bad news is that the damage to your skin cells is added with each sunburn, which increases the risk of getting skin cancer. Book your appointment with our dermatologist, Dr. Akari, today.
