COVID-19 testing service at FMP Hanoi
A negative COVID-19 result is now required by many places prior to your visit. In order to protect the community and prevent the COVID-19 from spreading, each individual does play an important role. Every negative result could contribute to bringing back the “new normal”.
Who should get tested for COVID-19?
Please follow the direction of CDC to whom should get tested for COVID-19
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/testing.html
What are the testing methods for COVID-19?
Antigen test:
Antigen tests are immunoassays that detect the presence of a specific viral component. This method only requires a short amount of time (from 25 to 30 minutes) for the result to be available.
At FMP Hanoi, we are conducting an antigen test method using the Panbio COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test Device from Abbott Rapid Diagnostics, Germany which is approved by WHO for Assessment Coronavirus disease.
The Panbio Covid-19 Antigen test has a specificity of 99.8% and a sensitivity of 91.4% (assessed by the WHO). Therefore, please kindly consider the following when you receive the result:
Positive: it means that the antigen of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been detected in the specimen (nasopharyngeal fluid). You are more likely to be infected with Covid-19. You need to follow health care officer’s guidance as well as wait for confirmatory testing by authorized centers using the real time RT-PCR tests.
Negative: it means that no current evidence of SARS-CoV2 virus has been detected in the specimen (nasopharyngeal fluid) at the time of testing. A negative test result does NOT confirm that you are NOT infected with Covid-19. However, with the negative result, you were less likely to infect other people, who had closed contact with you since the time of testing backward. Therefore, you still need to follow government practice and quarantine rules (if required by authorities) and continue to take steps to protect yourself.
Real time RT-PCR test:
A real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test is a high-sensitivity, high-specificity test for diagnosing SARS-CoV-2 infection. RT-PCR detects one or more viral ribonucleic acid (RNA) genes and indicate a current infection or a recent infection but, due to prolonged viral RNA detection, is not always direct evidence for the presence of virus capable of replicating or of being transmitted to others (CDC).
What do COVID-19 PCR test results mean?
Positive: You are likely to get infected with COVID-19. You need to follow health care officer’s guidance and local government guidelines and requirements.
Negative: This shows that you are probably not infected by COVID-19 at the time of testing. Please keep follow government practice and quarantine rules (if required by authorities) and continue to take steps to protect yourself.
How long until the COVID-19 PCR test result is available?
The availability of the PCR test result should be within 24 hours. At FMP Hanoi, it is possible for you to take the test before 9.am and receive the result after 7 p.m. This is our advantage that could suit your strict timetable, especially when you are in need of a fit-to-fly certificate for departure.
Are there downsides to a COVID-19 PCR test?
As the test involves an amplification process which can detect a very small amount of virus, there could be the case that you continue to have positive results after having recovered from COVID-19 and are no longer contagious.
