Job Descriptions

Work with diverse client groups including children, adults, families, couples; the psychologist use psychological theory and research in therapeutic work to help clients with a variety of problems. These problems can include difficult life issues and mental health conditions.


The work can vary depending on the setting and the clients, but tasks can include:


• Works as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside doctors and nurses; provides consultation to other professions, encouraging a psychological approach in their work

• Offers therapy and treatments for difficulties relating to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, social and interpersonal problems and challenging behavior

• Diagnose psychological, emotional or behavioral disorders

• Assess and identify psychological, emotional or behavioral issues in clients’ lives by using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews and direct observation of behaviour;

• Develops, monitors and implement appropriate treatment plans and therapeutic processes according to the client’s needs including therapy, counseling or advice, in collaboration with colleagues; developing and evaluating service provision for clients, the outcome of therapy

• Helps clients define goals and plan action to achieve personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment

• Monitors client progress through regular meetings or sessions to ensure that their needs are met by the course of action, and to adjust it if necessary

• Writing reports and record-keeping on patient profile sheets

• Teach classes, carrying out applied research, adding to the evidence base of practice in a variety of healthcare settings.

• Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Manager related to psychology’s work


Job Requirements


• Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology required.

• Minimum two (2) years experience in acute care hospital

• Interpersonal and psychotherapeutic skills;

• Excellent communication skills; an open-minded and sensitive approach when dealing with clients;


• The ability to explore emotional issues with clients; a healthy curiosity and research-minded approach;

• The ability to work as part of a team;

• Independence and self-motivation;

• Self-awareness, self-knowledge, security and self-belief;

• Capability to working under pressure.

• Fluent in English (writing, speaking, listening)

• Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills
